Super Fund chief Adrian Orr has been named the new Reserve Bank Governor.

PM Jacinda Ardern said today she was "delighted" to announce Mr Orr as the incoming Governor, effective as of March 27, 2018.

Minister of Finance Grant Robertson said Mr Orr has a "strong track record of delivery" and as the leader of the Super Fund he showed the credentials needed.

"This is a very important appointment. The Reserve Bank is entering a period of change."

He said Mr Orr, who replaces Grant Spencer, would be an "excellent candidate" to lead that change.
