For sale: One much-loved turquoise stuffed Southland ferret

December 11, 2017

University students ferreting around for a good deal online have got a bit more than they bargained for.

'Scruffy', a stuffed Southland ferret, is up for sale on Facebook, complete with a studded collar and an earring.

Her seller, Sarah Lee, posted the classified on the 'Vic Deals' page, in the hope that her beloved taxidermy will find a warm home.

She describes Scruffy as a bit of a "punk rocker".

"I wasn't sure that I'd actually bought her until she turned up in the post a few days later," Sarah said.

She told 1 NEWS that Scruffy was an impulse buy on Trade Me, and had been in her life since 2013.

"It's sad having to part with her, but unfortunately I have to downsize to live in a smaller house."

While it's not known how Scruffy died, Sarah says the ferret wasn't always a shade of blue.

"She was originally your typical light/dark brown colour combination. I had a variety of different coloured hair dyes kicking around and opted for turquoise as I felt it would work best with her natural colouring," she said.

With a price tag of just $50, Scruffy has already garnered attention online, with several people indicating their interest in purchasing the unique item.

"This has got to be the quickest online sale I've ever made," Sarah said.
