Driver seriously injured, Auckland motorway closed after car overturns

A driver has been seriously injured after their car overturned on Auckland's Southern Motorway this evening.

The incident occurred between Takanini and Papakura at 6.40pm.

Police say the driver has been transported to Middlemore Hospital.

The southbound lanes between Takanini and Papakura is closed while the motorway is cleared and traffic is being diverted through Great South Road.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
