A fire burning in scrub on the outskirts of Christchurch is being treated as suspicious.
Fire and Emergency NZ were alerted at 6.10pm today that the fire was burning on Coutts Island Road, Southern fire communications shift manager Andrew Norris said.
Four fire appliances, three tankers and two helicopters were sent to battle the blaze, which is in an area of gorse and scrub.
The fire covers 300m by 100m and is contained.
"It is being treated as suspicious," he said.
A total fire ban was put in place across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula from Saturday after a period of hot dry weather.
