Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern learned she has a high-profile fan when she was interviewed by former US Vice President Al Gore about climate change yesterday.
Mr Gore told Ms Ardern he was "cheering her on" in September's election while interviewing her as part of his Climate Reality Project 24HoursOfReality livestream.
"I watched your election and I was cheering for you even before you were elected, you really touched a nerve, people said wow what a breath of fresh air," Mr Gore said.
"For me I loved it that right away after being elected you announced your policies to tackle the climate crisis," Mr Gore opened the interview.
Ms Ardern thanked him for the compliment before outlining New Zealand's commitment to tackling the climate change issue.
"I feel that New Zealand's role in the issue of climate change actually feels anchored in who we are as a nation, historically we've been the first to give women the vote, we were at the forefront of the anti-nuclear movement.
"This feels like the next stage for the country in terms of standing up for an issue that will effect us for generations to come," she said.
The Prime Minister spoke with Mr Gore from Wellington via satellite.
