A Tokyo-bound Air New Zealand flight HAS had to turn back to Auckland today after experiencing engine problems.
An Air New Zealand spokesperson told 1 NEWS that their service NZ99 from Auckland to Narita, Tokyo, returned to Auckland this morning after experiencing an issue with one of its engines, which the captain elected to shut down as a precaution.
The aircraft carrying 268 customers and 14 crew landed safely back in Auckland shortly before 11.00am, after just an hour in the air.
"The captain requested emergency services be on standby for the landing in line with normal operating procedures, however, this was not an emergency landing," the Air New Zealand spokesperson said.
The flight departed at 9.55am this morning.
