While bitterly disappointed at missing out on a place at next year's World Cup, All Whites coach Anthony Hudson has paid a gracious tribute to Peru after they qualified in their place.
The South American nation will make its first appearance at the global showpiece since 1982 in Russia next year, an intolerable gap for such a football-mad nation.
Speaking after yesterday's 2-0 loss in Lima, Hudson gave a handsome tribute to Ricardo Gareca's men and their achievement, and what it means to the country.

"We came here, we weren't intimidated, however the fans tonight were amazing, the atmosphere was amazing," Hudson told media after the match.
"I sincerely mean this as I've spent a few days here, I know what getting to the World Cup means to Peru, I'm really really pleased for Peru and the people, I know what this going to do for the country. I really respect that.
"I wish them all the best. "

It will be Peru's fifth World Cup, while New Zealand will have to wait until at least 2022 in Qatar for their third appearance.
