A schoolboy has been hit by a truck while riding his bike in Hamilton this morning.

Police confirmed to 1 NEWS that at 8am a teenage boy collided with a truck on Anzac Parade in Hamilton East, sustaining moderate injuries.

He was taken to Waikato Hospital, a police spokesperson said.

"Fortunately, the helmet the boy was wearing may have prevented much more serious injuries," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

"This serves a timely reminder of the life-saving benefits of wearing a helmet at all times when riding a bike."

The driver of the truck is speaking with police.
