One year on from the devastating 7.8 magnitude Kaikoura earthquake, efforts are still being made to ensure the safety of the local wildlife.
A team of six seal wranglers have been saving seal pups one wriggly body at a time.
"They're not pets so while they look approachable once you get up there and try and pick them up you realise they are wild animals," NCTIR Environmental Manager Manea Sweeney said.
Sadly, despite their best attempts, 41 seals have died over the last three months, due to the rebuild of State Highway 1.
