Foreign Minister Winston Peters has condemned Japan's continued hunting of whales in the Southern Ocean.
It comes as Japan's Institute of Cetecean Research announced plans to hunt over the 300 whales in the Antarctic.
Mr Peters has branded it an "outdated practice" and says New Zealand is urging Japan to put an end to whaling programmes.
He is currently attending the APEC conference in Vietnam along with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
