Residents of the South Island, especially Arrowtown, are waking up to a fresh dump of snow this morning - just a few weeks out from the official start of summer.
MetService reported that up to 20cm of snow fell last night in the south, with the highest level recorded at the Homer Tunnel in Fiordland.

Widespread snowfall was record across Southland, Otago, Canterbury, Fiordland and parts of Westland and Marlborough overnight.
The snowfall accompanied a deep low which passed over the south last night, and is still bringing rain to parts of Canterbury and Otago this morning.
In the north, a front of heavy rain is this morning passing over, with the majority of the rain set to head off to the east of the country by late afternoon.
