Man dies in 'fairly intense' Auckland garage fire overnight

A 40-year-old man has died after a fire in a garage in the Auckland suburb of Mangere this morning.

Firefighters were called to an address on Rosella Road about 2.10am.

The man died from injuries sustained in the fire and investigators are trying to determine the cause.

Inspector Ian Brooker said the man had been working on something in the garage and said there "has been some sort of fire - fairly intense".

A passing security guard raised the alarm and first responders gave him CPR, but he died at the scene.
