A large scrub fire at Alexandra in Central Otago is now contained and under control, police say.
Emergency Services worked to contain the blaze around the Aronui Rd and Kamaka Cres area, and advised residents on those streets to stay indoors.
The fire was described by police as located in a steep, rocky gully.
Police say there is not believed to be any further risk to property.
But they've told residents in the area there is still some risk of fire due to the dry conditions and a restricted fire season remains in place.
Police say the fire is not considered suspicious and is not thought to be linked to fireworks.
Five crews from Alexandra, Clyde, Omakau, and rural fire staff and their tankers from Alexandra and Blackstone are on site.
Police and ambulance have been on scene as a precaution.
