Two firefighters have been injured after an explosion during a house fire in South Auckland today.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson confirmed to 1 NEWS the pair were battling a house fire in Mangere.

The firefighters were treated by St John staff at the scene on Henwood Road after an explosion at the back of the house while they were fighting the blaze.

The spokesperson says the firefighters are okay and that the fire has been contained.

Fire received the call to the property just after 5:00pm.
