President Donald Trump has warned would-be opponents to his country not to doubt the "resolve" held by the US, while also making threats that previous wars against his country were "not pleasant" for its opponents.
Trump embarked Friday on a five-nation trip to Asia, his second extended foreign trip since taking office and his first to Asia.
Speaking to US troops stationed in Japan at Yokota air base near Tokyo, Trump heaped on the bravado.
"No-one, no dictator, no regime... should underestimate - ever- American resolve," he said.
"Together with our allies, America’s warriors are prepared to defend our nation using the full range of our unmatched capabilities."
The President spoke while wearing a military bomber jacket in front of a huge American flag, with a fighter jet to his right.
"Every once in a while in the past they underestimated us - it was not pleasant for them was it? It was not pleasant."
The comments come amid rising tensions with North Korea, which has refused to back down on continued weapons tests despite international condemnation.
Trump's trip will take him to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and Philippines for summits of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The trip is expected to be dominated by Trump demanding that US allies in the region increase pressure on North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions.
