Jacinda Arden invited Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to join her on a fishing trip in New Zealand after the two leaders entered bilateral talks with officials over brunch in Sydney today.
In her first overseas trip since becoming Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern raised her view on Australia's response to the Manus Island humanitarian crisis in face-to-face talks with her counterpart, as well as discussing the TPP, free trade and terrorism.
Speaking to reporters after their meeting, Mr Turnbull reiterated the close bond New Zealand and Australia hold and the leaders friendship which "has developed as I knew it would".
"We've had some really good discussions, we've covered a lot of ground," Mr Turnbull said.
"I just want to say that what is most important is the enduring bond, friendship, partnership, history between our two nations."
Ms Ardern said Australia and New Zealand are family.
"I have extended the invitation for the Prime Minister, for Malcolm to come and join me with some fishing," she said.
"I'm no kayaker or paddle boarder but I can fish so I welcome you to New Zealand the next opportunity you are able to join us."
