The 2017 British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland has opened up to Seven Sharp about the reasons why he dreaded the tour, taking fire at New Zealand's media coverage of the Lions.
But Gatland admitted that the Lions tour wasn't all bad with fans creating a great atmosphere for players and coaching staff.
"The atmosphere at the grounds was phenomenal, both sets of supporters. Hospitality – unbelievable," said Gatland.
He said the scheduling was extremely tough for his side considering they were given one week of preparation before seven games and three Tests against the world champion All Blacks.
Gatland wasn't at all happy how NZ Herald claimed he would be targeting his son Bryn Gatland during the Lions' first game of the tour against the New Zealand Barbarians.
"I was disgusted by that headline I thought it was out of order. And to think that a father would go in, for our family it was one of our proudest moments in both of our rugby careers."
The NZ Herald headlined one of their stories 'Gatland to target Barbarians' weakest link – his son.'

Gatland said the negative media coverage towards him and his team added fuel to the fire, making him more determined.
The Kiwi coach said he was proud of the tour and what his side achieved off and on the field, although both the Lions and All Blacks weren't sure how to feel about the drawn series.
"It was a fantastic achievement. I spoke to Steve Hansen after the game and he said 'how you feeling?' and I said 'not too bad and what about yourself?' And he said 'it's like kissing your sister.'
"I could understand that response," said Gatland.
