All Blacks halfback Aaron Smith has been issued with a formal written warning for his involvement in last year's Christchurch Airport sex scandal, after New Zealand Rugby relaunched an independent investigation into the incident.
After an Australian media outlet published details of conversations between Smith and the woman alleged to have been at the centre of the scandal, New Zealand Rugby re-opened their investigation into the incident dating back to October 2016, with the new details published not matching Smith's initial account.

"Based on information published today New Zealand Rugby believes that it needs to investigate the Aaron Smith matter further and has instructed an independent lawyer to do so," NZR said at the time.
In a statement released today, New Zealand Rugby CEO Steve Tew said that Smith had been issued a warning for his conduct.
"Being honest, particularly in a disciplinary proceeding, is critically important for any employer and that is certainly the case with NZR," Tew said
"To reinforce this point, we have issued Aaron Smith with a formal written warning."
The statement also said that the matter was now closed, with no further comment from New Zealand Rugby.
