TVNZ1's Marae was given exclusive access to a gang dispute resolution hui organised by a Kiwi man determined to implement change when it comes to gang issues.
Harry Tam from Rangatira Hard2Reach told Marae he is often called on to resolve gang disputes.
"No one is hard to reach if you really want to reach them.
"These group of people or underclass of people exist because we have not as a society and as government actually put the effort in and sufficient resources to reach them," Mr Tam said.
He says his workload in this area has increased since last year. Marae was allowed to film inside a dispute resolution hui between the Mongrel Mob and the Tribesman.
After decades of rivalry and gang murders there was a sense of positivity in the room as the calm discussions took place.
"If it wasn't for people like him there'd be a lot more s**t happening I think," Peter Hunt from the Tribesman told Marae.
Mr Tam said he would rather be involved in more positive work in the community than having to sit around and resolve disputes, but the work is needed and he is happy to do it.
