Crime-fighting wore a new uniform today as a good Samaritan tackled a man to the ground after he threatened staff during the robbery of a dairy in Napier.
Police say a man dressed in a pink tutu, pink fishnets and fairy wings helped them in the pursuit of a man in a balaclava who had allegedly just performed the aggravated robbery of a dairy in Napier at 2pm today.
Luckily, an off duty police officer was also in the area and helped the pink fairy take the man down.
The good fairy had just finished a walk for breast cancer when he called in the police to alert them to the situation.
"We want to give our pink fairy hero and his acquaintance a big pat on the back for preventing this offender from getting away," says Senior Sergeant Kevin Stewart of the Eastern District Command Centre.
Whilst the pink uniform was successful the police say they will be sticking to the blue.
A 42-year-old man has been charged with aggravated robbery and is set to appear in Hastings District Court tomorrow.
