Watch: Gripping footage shows giant trevally swallowing birds in new Sir David Attenborough series

October 27, 2017

A teaser for the long-awaited Sir David Attenborough documentary Blue Planet II reveals a breathtaking moment when a giant trevally fish swallows fledgling birds on the ocean.

The BBC trailer shows the hunting methods of the massive trevally fish which are apparently able to calculate the physics of the flight of fledgling terns.

A giant trevally leaps out of the water with its huge mouth open and a tern in flight gets away just in time to avoid being snatched.

But other young terns resting on the sea are easy prey as the trevally swoops and devours them.

The much-anticipated six-episode Planet Earth II series begins on TVNZ 1 on November 12 at 7.30pm.
