US Ambassador admits he's been counselled on 'standards of conduct' following incident in Samoa

America's Ambassador to New Zealand has confirmed he has been counselled on standards of conduct following an incident at an official function in Samoa.

Yesterday Scott Brown told 1 NEWS he wasn't being investigated over his behaviour at the event, where it's alleged he made inappropriate comments.

He subsequently confirmed a US State Department inquiry had taken place with investigators sent to Wellington.

Mr Brown says he just told some female guests they looked beautiful.
