Watch: Audi driver banned after shocking attempt at overtaking on median strip lands him in hot water

October 26, 2017

A witness to a shocking overtaking incident on a busy UK motorway says the Audi driver who has now been fined and banned from driving has got what he deserved.

Dashcam video of the terrifying manoeuvre on the M5 near Bristol in August led police to investigate the incident and prosecute the driver.

The vision, published by the Bristol Post, shows the Audi forcing its way past a Volvo by driving onto the median strip, close to the barrier.

The Audi sends up a cloud of dirt and roadside debris is tossed along the carriageway.

Michael Waistell, 32 of Oldham, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was fined $1267, banned from driving for a year and will have to take an extended test, the Bristol Post reported.

The driver who witnessed the shocking incident, Lee Borastero, said he thinks the dangerous driver got what he deserved.

"I was not expecting jail time, as he had pleaded guilty," Mr Borastero said.

"It took a few days to sink in about what could have happened on the motorway. There have been some horrific accidents on the M5 this year and in the past few years."
