Pune groundsman suspended over match fixing allegations before NZ's ODI with India

October 25, 2017

Controversy has struck ahead of tonight's second ODI between India and the Blacks Caps with the head groundsman at Pune's stadium being suspended over matching fixing allegations.

Espncricinfo.com reports that a sting operation by India Today was carried out and that groundsman Pandurang Salgaonkar was willing to tamper the pitch to give advantage to two particular bowlers.

The bowlers were not identified.

Salgaonkar allegedly also gave pitch details to undercover reporters who acted as bookies.

Reporters told the groundsman that two players wanted a pitch with bounce.

India Today reported Salgaonkar said, "it will be done."

Salgaonkar has also been barred from entering the ground, and the match is going ahead as planned.
