Jacinda Ardern will this morning be sworn in as the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand.

The Labour Party leader will join members of the incoming Government Executive at an official Ministerial swearing-in ceremony at Government House at 11am.

She'll then return to Parliament to chair the first meeting of the new coalition Government's Cabinet.

Ms Ardern will later hold her inaugural post-Cabinet press conference in the Beehive Theatrette.

Today's events follow yesterday's announcement of ministerial portfolios.

After plenty of speculation, Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters was confirmed as Foreign Minister, and the New Zealand First leader also picked up State Owned Enterprises and Racing.

The Labour leader is greeted by hundreds of supporters at the Aotea Centre in Auckland.

Third on the list is the new Minister of Corrections, Kelvin Davis, followed by Finance Minister Grant Robertson.

Ms Ardern herself will be responsible for the portfolios of National Security, the Arts and Reducing Child Poverty.
