Three children and one adult were injured when a truck crashed and caught fire on State Highway 5, south of Taupo just before midnight last night.

Two children and one adult were transported to Taupo Hospital.

A third child was taken by helicopter to Hawke's Bay Hospital.

Police were called to the scene at 11:56pm last night, with two of the occupants trapped for a time in the wreck. 

Firefighters and and four St John ambulances attended the scene of the crash.
