Kiwi F1 driver Brendon Hartley has impressed his team Toro Rosso in Austin so far this weekend as he prepares for his Formula 1 debut at tomorrow's US Grand Prix.

Toro Rosso's team manager Graham Watson said there is a high likelihood Hartley will get a chance to race next weekend at the Mexican Grand Prix.

"For sure we will have to wait for the final decision from Redbull Racing to what we do with Brendon but I can 100 per cent tell everybody that he has a very strong chance of progressing from this weekend into the future with us," said Watson.

The 27-year-old said for now he is focused on making any mistakes on his debut.

"That's news to me," Hartley told 1 NEWS.

"Honestly I haven't been asking questions.

"The approach I have taken from when I got the word (debut) I knew it was going to happen was to keep a low key profile and just focus on doing the job and focus on enjoying it."

Hartley will start at the back of the grid in his debut in Formula 1 tomorrow in Austin.
