'Designated driver does not mean John Deere' - man caught over the legal driving limit on ride-on lawnmower

October 19, 2017

The moment police pull up next to a man driving a ride-on lawnmower at a petrol station in Tasmania and blew over the legal driving limit has been caught on CCTV.

Another man walked behind the lawnmower as it was driven onto the forecourt and next to the pump at a petrol station on the East Derwent Highway, northwest of Hobart, in the early hours of October 1.

The 23-year-old driver of the lawnmower was breathalysed and returned a reading of 0.143, more than triple the legal driving limit.

"Mate....we suggest getting a ride not a ride-on!," Tasmania Police wrote on Facebook along with the video.

"Organising a designated driver does not mean John Deere."

"Old mate was already on the gas when he decided to ride his lawnmower to his local service station to fill up."

The driver is set to face three charges in court later this month, including using an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
