Watch: 'This place is a dead set joke' - Aussie prisoner mocks guards with contraband knife and mobile phone

A Sydney prisoner has filmed himself brandishing a knife inside his cell using a mobile phone he claims was smuggled into him by guards for money.

In a mocking tone the inmate describes the ease of access he has to a number of prohibited items within Sydney's Parklea prison.

"This place is a dead set joke, it's a dead set joke," the prisoner says in a video obtained by 9 NEWS. 

"Right now I'm in my cell, I've got a mobile phone. Why have I got a mobile phone? Because screws bring mobile phones into the jail for money."

Pulling a knife into view, he adds: "Now why am I carrying around a knife like that. Why does that need to be in my had at this point of time?"

The prisoner ends by pulling up another sharp makeshift weapon saying: "Now why do I have a slasher? That's an example of what it can do to your throat."
