Radio personality Jay-Jay Harvey has opened up on-air, for the first time, about the aftermath of her alleged sexual assault, and the "ridiculous" criticism she's received.
Earlier this month, Harvey posted on her Facebook page explaining how she was taking a taxi home, when the driver allegedly groped her breasts.
This morning, she was back on-air for the first time since the incident, speaking to listeners more about what happened, in which she alleged the taxi driver also attempted to follow her into her apartment building.
Responding to criticism about her decision to sit in the front seat of the taxi on the night of the incident, she said she "wasn't asking for it."
"You should be able to [sit wherever you want]," Harvey said.
"I trust taxi drivers to do their job and take me where I want to go safely. Just because I sat in the front is no excuse for the driver to have done what he did.
"I should have felt safe, and should have been safe. I wasn't asking for it - that's just the most ridiculous thing I've ever freaking heard."
In hindsight, Harvey said she has learned not to post about something of this nature so publicly, as she was criticised for failing to go to the police straight away.
"I hadn't slept very well because I was thinking about it over and over in my head, like, 'How bad was it? Was it just minor?' So I went on Facebook because I didn't know what to do.
"I wasn't doing it for attention, I didn't do it for the publicity obviously. I was just reaching out."
Harvey said she reported the incident to the police after public pressure.
"I want to say to any man or woman listening who has ever been assaulted in any way, and you've been able to tell police or reach out for police, that you're so brave," she said.
"I admire you greatly because I know how much strength it takes to do that."
