A man says he was held at knifepoint and robbed of hundreds of dollars while hitchhiking in Waikato yesterday afternoon.
The man was hitchhiking on State Highway 27 near Matamata at around 5.30pm when he says he was picked up for a ride by a driver in a red Nissan car.
Five minutes into the journey the driver of the car pulled over and presented a knife to the man, demanding money.
The man handed over several hundred dollars and got out of the car.
Police are asking anyone who was in the Matamata area around 5pm and saw a red Nissan car to contact them on 07 888 7117 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
