'Who wants to get pikd up' - teen driver of stolen car offered rides before fatal South Auckland crash

The 15-year-old who died after a short police pursuit in South Auckland this morning asked his Facebook friends whether they wanted to be picked up.

Morocco Tai died after the stolen Honda Torneo he was driving crashed into a tree on Bairds Ave in Otara about 6am.

It was revealed today that Tai was apprehended by Police on September 22 last month and charged with aggravated robbery after he was a passenger in a car with four passengers driven the wrong way up Auckland's Southern Motorway, narrowly avoiding numerous collisions.

Tai, posting on Facebook this morning, wrote a number of messages to his friends, including asking "whats everyone upto" at 12.33am.

He then commented that he was "Whip riding" - slang for driving a car.

"The violent offenders are out mf," he wrote at 12.39am.

A few minutes later at 1.14am he asked "Who wants to get pikd up..", with a number of people replying affirmatively.

Two 16-year-old girls were hurt in this morning's crash and were taken to hospital - they are now undergoing surgery.

Many people have posted on Tai's posts and photos offering condolences and tributes to him.

"Why'd it have to end like this man ... I just can't get over it," wrote one.

While others were more scathing of his behaviour.

"To all you other little f***wits think twice before you do something stupid and be safe," one comment read, while another suggested "he should've been driving safer ... then he would still be here blessing everyone with his presence".

Pictures posted on Tai's Facebook profile show himself and associates with large quantities of alcohol and cigarettes.
