Raw video: Tree torn apart, car demolished in deadly North Shore Hospital crash

An elderly man has died following a crash on the grounds of Auckland's North Shore Hospital this afternoon, in which his car collided with a tree.

The incident took place on Shea Terrace around 12.45pm, and although the occupant received CPR, he died at the scene.

Footage of the crash shows the bonnet of a BMW sedan completely crumpled against a large tree.

Numerous police are also at the scene questioning witnesses of the fatal crash.

A Fire Service spokesperson told 1 NEWS the crash involved one car and one person was extricated.  

The incident adds to a horror few days on New Zealand's roads, with 10 fatalities since Friday.

Three people died in Southland late last night, while one person died in South Auckland following a police chase this morning.
