New Zealand Post has pulled 400 Paxster vehicles off the streets after discovering a fault.

The electric vehicles, which are used in urban areas, will undergo "repair and fix work" because of a problem with shock absorbers.

"After taking technical advice we have decided to take this precautionary and proactive measure.

"We take the health and safety of our staff very seriously," NZ Post said today.

A spokesperson told 1 NEWS alternative delivery methods would be used, including bicycles, electric bikes, and courier drivers.

Deliveries will continue to operate as normal, including for those in rural areas and with PO boxes.
